As Miss N would say... HAPPY HEART TO HEART DAY (Thanks, Fancy Nancy, for that influence!)! This may be my favorite holiday of the year. I LOVE it! Now that we have a family, it's all about the kids. We do fun things for breakfast (heart shaped pancakes anyone?), give them balloons and small gifts, and then do a special "snacking" dinner followed by some homemade chocolately dessert (yum!).
This year for Valentine's Day I picked up a few new books for the kids - some "love" themed and a few others that just looked really cute. Here's what I'll be giving my sweet little ones on Valentine's Day...what are you giving yours?
Books for Miss N:
The Day It Rained Hearts by Felicia Bond
The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton
Ladybug Girl Loves... by Jacky Davis and David Soman
Books for Mr P:
Where Is Love, Biscuit? by Alyssa Satin Capucilli
The Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle

It's been two years in the making but I finally finished our Christmas Advent Calendar right in time to kick off the holiday season!
To celebrate Advent this year and count down to the BIG day, we do a Christmas themed activity each day. I created these adorable hang tag ornaments with a variety of holiday activities and placed one in each slot of the calendar. Doing an activity is great for the kids (and moms too!) because it's a special treat plus keeps the kids busy for a little bit as well. Miss N LOVES to check out the calendar first thing in the morning and gets excited about what the day brings.
Here's our list of Christmas activities for the holiday season...
1. Read a Christmas Story
2. Deck the Halls (decorate the kids area in the basement)
4. Sing Christmas Carols
5. Snowman Craft
6. Christmas Parade
7. Pick out the Christmas Tree
8. Trim the Tree
9. Write a Letter to Santa
10. Peppermint Hot Cocoa
11. Make Christmas Cards
12. Christmas Dance Party :-)
13. Visit Santa
14. Family Hand Print Christmas Tree
15. Make Christmas Cookies
16. Daddy Date - Christmas Shopping
18. Play with Snow Dough
19. Make Ornaments
20. Christmas Crafts
21. Christmas Road Trip
22. Holiday Tea Party (at a fancy hotel!)
23. Lights! Lights! Lights! (check out cool house decor)
25. Celebrate Christmas
After we pull the daily activity, we hang the tag on this silver Christmas tree.
Isn't it cute?
What things do you do to celebrate the season and countdown to Christmas? I'd love to hear from you about other fun activities to do with the kiddos and keep the spirit of the season going...
Dear Readers,
There is so much about this time of year that I love but I think the thing that I look forward to the most is the comfort of spending time with dear friends and family. There's something wonderful about sitting around the table, holding hands and thanking God for the blessings in our lives. I have so much to be thankful for this year - the birth of my second child and first son, the joy in watching Miss N grow into a curious and delightful young girl and being able to spend a lot of time with my family. I wish you all a wonderful holiday season and hope that you spend your day surrounded by those you love. Happy Thanksgiving!
xoxo,
Kristen
Every year I try to think of something new and thoughtful to give as a thank you gift for friends and family who host holiday events. Last year I made a ton of homemade hot chocolate mixes and put together little gift bags with the mix, mugs and some yummy treats. Well, this year I plan to give these adorable packages filled with mulling spices and a mesh tea ball from Williams-Sonoma. The spices blend well with red wine or apple cider (or juice) and are a nice treat for a cool winter night - the perfect little gift for your hostess with the mostess!
Have you noticed that November is now the month of giving thanks? Tweets and posts celebrating life's little blessings has taken over social media and is all the buzz in my feeds. I absolutely love it!
Well, we've started our "Thankful For" wall again this year. Each of us gets a leaf to post each day. After dinner we sit down, talk about our blessings and hang up our "thankful" leaf. It's pretty cool to see what we appreciate... Miss N focuses on the people in her life, my husband focuses on food and time spent with friends, and mine are usually about little happy moments during the day. It's very special to me and when we're done we'll have such a cool collection of memories that I'll keep for the years to come.
It's super easy to start this tradition in your house. Grab some colored paper (I used construction paper), Download the Leaves Template, cut out some leaves, find a wall and start posting up your own version of the Thankful wall. And another cool part... at the end of the month you'll have some pretty great art too!
This is my favorite "pin" of the week - an Easter decoration made with apothecary jars filled with faux Easter eggs from BHG.com. What I love about this decoration is that it is simple, pretty, colorful and natural. The apothecary jars would look stunning on a mantel or would shine as your centerpiece for Easter brunch. Plus, I think you could keep it out as a "spring" decoration and get a little more longevity than only using it for Easter decor. Isn't it lovely? Now, I am off to find some apothecary jars... Ciao!
